mcnair high school, dekalb county schools.

today marks the start of a week of aniversaries that nasa would rather not mark.

40 years ago today, apollo 1 burned on the launchpad during a test, killing astronauts grissom, chaffee and white.

21 years tomorrow, challenger blew up 73 seconds after take off, killing scobee, smith, resnick, onizuka, mcnair, jarvis and mcauliff.

thursday will mark the 4th aniversary of the columbia disaster, in which astronauts husband, mccool, chawla, clark, brown, anderson, and ramon were killed.

mcnair high school is one of several schools throughout the country named for ronald mcnair, a member of challenger's last crew.

had to drag out the sunglasses today for the first time in a long time. w/ the cloudless skies come the colder temps, down to the mid 20s F* tonight. here, the afternoon sun beams through the window to backlight the leaves on the sill.

*I know that 20F is not 5F, but it's a matter of what you're used to. 10 days ago was in the 70s.

they exist for opposite purposes, to undo what the other one does. and yet, in spite of their contrast in function, they reside nicely side by side. no border skirmishes; no political fallout; just peaceful coexistence.
